We are interested in stories that showcase how Rensselaer is changing the world.
The Office of News and Editorial Services publishes news stories that are shared across campus and around the world via the Web, print, email, and social networks. We also work closely with the news media. Proactively, we reach out to journalists to promote Rensselaer experts, new research, events, programs, and other newsworthy happenings. Additionally, we connect Rensselaer subject matter experts with journalists to comment on breaking news. We also respond to a large number of media inquiries.
To contact News and Editorial Services, see our staff list. The office is organized into “beats,” divided by academic and administrative areas.
The News and Editorial Services staff is happy to speak with you about your news item or event, learn about your communication goals, and work with you to determine the best strategy and tactics for achieving those goals.
We use a variety of networking and information sharing methods to learn about the latest happenings on campus. The best source for stories, however, is members of the Rensselaer community.
We pitch news releases, as appropriate, to the news media. Additionally, our news releases are shared far and wide online. All stories are posted on the Institute’s News Page, get shared on Twitter at @RPInews, and are shared with the campus community via MorningMail. Many news releases also appear in Inside Rensselaer, the Rensselaer Alumni Magazine, and on the Institute’s Facebook page. News releases are also often featured in newsletters distributed by academic departments, research centers, Alumni Relations, and others. Additionally, the content in news releases regularly gets repurposed and reused for marketing material used by Enrollment, Institute Advancement, and others across campus.
If a reporter contacts you concerning an emergency, public safety, personnel, or another sensitive matter, you should consult with the Office of News and Editorial Services. You may also direct the journalist to call 518-276-6656 and ask for the on-call media relations representative.
If you are being asked to comment on an issue or news story, and you are comfortable speaking to a reporter, feel free to do so. However, we recommend that you contact us before committing to an interview, so we may offer advice on how to proceed. The Office of News and Editorial Services can also assist you with scheduling and facilitating the interview.
The Office of News and Editorial Services can provide basic media training prior to your interview. If you wish, we would be happy to be present or on the phone with you during the interview. Additionally, please remember that you may always ask a reporter to supply a list of questions in advance of the interview.Office of News and Editorial Services (Building 2021)
